In the link, there is a slideshow that provides photos that represent each design element and principle. The photo of line is of the leaves attached to roses. Lines are the basics to building art. The lines in the leaves create a pathway from one point of the leaf to another. This leads the eye through the photo. Value was represented by black and white contrast. It is the difference between light and dark. The flowers represent the light, and the black background is the dark. Next, the spiral burner represents a shape. The single line forms a circle. It is not a conventional shape, but it looks interesting. The balloons in the next photo is the elements of forms. This element is three dimensional. Each balloon has length, width, and depth. The metallic color against the white wall made the forms aesthetically pleasing to look at. Space was represented by the shelf holding a fake plant. There is space between the shelf and the wall which makes the shelf have dimension when looking at it from the side. In the photo of puzzle pieces, this was the elements of color. The different colors defined lines, shapes, and patterns which makes the eye look for connections. For the last element, the photo of the rock wall is of texture. Looking at this wall, you can see and feel the difference in the surface.
For balance, the wreath placed in the middle of the door created harmony. The wreath is asymmetrical in the placement of different textures, but they do not disturb the eye. Contrast was represented with the extreme color and texture difference between the carpet and wood furnishing. The difference is very significant and makes the eye concentrate on the different lines that run through the wood and the carpet. Movement was created by running water out of the sink. The reflection of the light off of the metal highlighted the water and how it was moving. For emphasis, there needed to be a point in the photo that brought the most attention. The bright background against the black fur of the cat made the eyes stand out. This is also because the color of the eyes were brighter than the rest of the photo. Pattern was represented by the air vent because the lines connected in each square, which was repetitive. This one was hard to represent without already finding art that had a pattern in it. This was what I could find that would not necessarily be seen as a usual pattern. Proportion was represented by the dessert. The waffle was in the middle, and two swirls of whip cream encased it on each side. This created a symmetrical balance between sizes. Lastly, unity was represented by the many flowers and greenery. Many elements and principles can be seen; color, texture, balance, and so fourth. Since many are represented, it showed the harmony of all the pieces coming together.
It was hard to capture photos of all of these design elements and principles. My mind just saw what could possibly represent each one, and took a picture. Self expression helps to make creative projects like this. An element I saw may not be the same one someone else sees. It is about point of view and making you think about what you see.
Hi Lauren! I think the photo you labeled as a pattern is a great example, the vent is a perfect pattern, but also could've worked for symmetry. For texture, the rocks showcase a rough texture that comes through in the photo. For the photo labeled Space, the form would've been a good one too to label that photo as because it showcases a 3D shape. The photo of the black cat against the white background showcases a great example of emphasis because it allows the cat to be highlighted as the main point of the photo. Overall the photos are great examples of the elements and principles you labeled them as :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the picture you used for emphasis. The black cat's green eyes really stand out and move the viewer's eyes straight to them. I really liked the picture you chose for space as well. I am a plant lover and really like the look of the space on the wall, above the plant. The picture you used for balance was interesting too. The wreath had a lots of flowers and details on one side and less on the other. Although this work of art was unbalanced it worked very well and looked beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe images that you chose to portray the elements and principles of design were amazing. I thought the photos you chose were very thought out and it appears that you were able to connect the definitional terms of elements or principles to images. I personally was able to identify in some photos the parts where you can identify examples of elements or principles as well. Nice work!
